7. AREA ZERO - SAHARA DESERT SERIES

Deep within the merciless Sahara lies Area Zero, a demarcated square on General Jonot’s map, destined for a hydrogen bomb test that will shake the world. For Lieutenant Andre D’Aran, a broken man with a dark secret consuming him from within, the desolate Fort Ney unexpectedly becomes the epicentre of international intrigue.

His garrison’s isolation is shattered by the arrival of the chilling Colonel Gallast and his icy agents, disguised as archaeologists. Their true, terrifying mission abruptly unfolds. They seize the fort to observe the bomb detonation, intending to use D’Aran’s men as human guinea pigs in this lethal experiment. Trapped, disarmed, and with the cruelest of ultimatums hanging over their heads, any resistance whatsoever means a comrade’s death, the Legionnaires must fight for survival.

As D’Aran wrestles with his past and the impending doom, a desperate battle of wits, valour, and sacrifice ignites within the walls of Fort Ney. Daring plans are forged, loyalties are tested to their utmost limits, and every shadow may conceal a new peril or an unexpected ally. With the clock mercilessly ticking down to the detonation, and Gallast’s schemes threatening to destroy more than just the desert, the question becomes not only who will survive, but whether the truth of Area Zero will ever reach the outside world. Will D’Aran be able to save his men and his soul, or will Area Zero engulf them all in a brutal firestorm? The answers lie hidden beneath the blood-red, searing Sahara sun, in a tale of suspense, betrayal, and the indomitable human will to survive.

Scant information is available concerning the author Sandbergh Beyers. It has been ascertained that he penned a Sahara series comprising thirteen volumes, chronicling the vicissitudes of a number of Foreign Legionnaires serving with the French Foreign Legion in the sweltering Sahara Desert. No further particulars regarding the author, nor indeed any other literary works he may have produced, have come to light. Notwithstanding its unforgiving nature and inherent perils, the Sahara Desert holds a profound allure for many. Consequently, it is hardly surprising that a plethora of narratives and cinematic productions are set within this inhospitable expanse. This Sahara Desert series, chronicling the experiences of Foreign Legionnaires in the vast Sahara, authored by Sandbergh Beyers, is indeed no exception to this trend. He masterfully crafted a superb series of thirteen instalments, wherein readers will undoubtedly revel in, inter alia, his vivid depictions of the Sahara Desert and the gripping drama that unfolds within its confines. It is, unequivocally, an outstanding collection guaranteed to captivate its audience.
