"Over the last forty years, few people have made the impact upon a sport or a group of people as has Karl Dewazien. During that time thousands of young people have developed a passion for the sport of soccer as a result of Karl’s unique teaching skills and more importantly his tremendous caring." - D.T.
Coach DR, who is just getting started will begin sending Koach Karl his practice and game adventures and Koach K (KD) will guide him through the turbulent waters of youth soccer coaching. Koach Karl will be using his ‘FUNdamental Practice Flow’ to make coach DR’s’ season a success. Here is a little about Coach DR.
Coach DR is a 52 year-old scientist with a 9 year-old daughter. His daughter started playing soccer the year before last and her team needed an assistant coach - not knowing any better, he volunteered.
Coach DR wrote, “I had so much fun, I decided to coach a U8 mixed team the next year. As per our league requirements for U8 coaches, I also took the F License course, learning the 9-step routine in the process. Last season was great - I worked with a super bunch of kids, so, naturally, I wanted to do it again!"
This book covers the first 6 weeks of coaching, the first game, interactions with parents, scheduling practice games and just making sure the kids are aligned with fun of the game. How you coach makes a big difference. This eBook is for new coaches, mom & dad, elementary school teachers who involved with school yard sports. This is the first of several volumes on youth soccer coaching. I hope you like it.
The 9-STEP routine, on the other hand, is just a neat stroke of brilliance. Those 9 steps, if we are honest with ourselves, represent nothing more than every great session schematic in the world.
I’m very, very pleased that your materials were out there for people willing to put in the work to be a good coach.
Koach Karl has done it again with this short easy to grasp eBook! As a soccer educator for over 40 years, I still find nuggets of wisdom In Karl’s words. He has the unique ability to make things concrete and take directly to training. We all can use a mentor and Karl is filling this need. I’m looking forward to your next masterpiece.
BRILLIANT, Absolutely brilliant A necessary adjunct for every first, second and third year coach and probably essential for every coach who thinks he or she knows how to coach While most books deal with “WHAT TO DO” KD’s tips deal with how to do it, recognizing that you have to learn to walk before you learn to fly. Throughout the book he deals with patience and sticking to a time-proven routine (the 9 step method). Karl recognizes that many coaches try to do too much too soon and that leads to frustration. Maintaining reins will permit growth and smiles. In other words, do NOT get ahead of yourself. If you analyze the practice routine, Coach Karl, keeps everything moving so fast, the kids will never have time to get bored. His practices emphasize doing rather than talking and lots of positive reinforcements. Corrections are done individually to avoid embarrassment While one might start skimming pages, please do NOT!!! Interspersed are techniques for handling those who arrive late for practices, throw mud, disrupt the routine, etc. Coach Karl also has suggestions for creating a stimulating environment for the adept players while maintaining a fun environment for those who need more work – all within the same practice. And, I should add, these techniques WORK. Overall this is a wonderful “how to” book written by someone who truly understands kids and the psychology of learning, and practices and loves the game. Very easy reading. Definitely 5 stars!!!!!
In my 35 years of coaching youth soccer, Coach Karl’s 9- step routine has proven to be the most useful method to ensure FUN and child development. This book is an in-depth view of a mentor/mentee relationship that Coach Karl has with many coaches including myself. It shows how frustrating the initial implementation of the 9- step routine can be but how rewarding it is if coaches are patient and let the system work. This book shows coaches that they are not alone in their frustrations and that trusting in the system will produce great results; ultimately allowing the kids (and coaches) to have FUN and enjoy their developmental time together on the field. Coach Karl’s passion for ensuring child development while having FUN needs to be the number one priority in youth soccer and is evident in this book.
