5.0 out of 5 stars ‘Through pain and suffering we learn to appreciate life and what we have.’
Author Dr. Joseph K. Egbebike, Ph.D., PT, a Board Certified Physical Therapist and Health Coach, earned his doctorate degree in Pathokinesiology from New York University. He writes and speaks not only from knowledge but also from experience: he has over 30 years of clinical experience treating thousands of pain sufferers but equally important to note is that he is a pain sufferer himself who has learned to live joyfully despite his condition.
Dr. Egbebike has written one of the most thoroughly researched and clearly written and accessible books about a disease that has remained a mystery since a name was finally attached to the chronic pain syndrome – fibromyalgia. (Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is defined as a chronic disorder characterized by persistent and widespread muscle soreness, stiffness, chronic fatigue, and many other symptoms, especially well-defined painful spots called ‘tender points.’)
As he states in his introductory remarks, ‘My main aim in writing this book is to empower you, the fibromyalgia victim, with enough information on the subject to wrest your life back from fibromyalgia and chemical dependency.’
He addresses all aspects of fibromyalgia in the following sections – Overview of Fibromyalgia syndrome (Understanding Fibromyalgia Syndrome - FMS, Common symptoms and associated conditions, How is FMS diagnosed, What causes FMS?, Conventional pharmacological treatment); Re-Evaluating Your Medications (including adverse effects of the medications and withdrawal symptoms); SAM-e To The Rescue (a fine discussion of Adenosylmethionine (SAM-e); Other Drug-Free Fibromyalgia Relief and Self-Care Strategies (How to manage stress and muscle tension, Fibromyalgia exercise, and fitness program, Fast solutions for muscle soreness/headaches/sleep problems, Nutritional healing, Fibromyalgia disability issues and how to file claims successfully) and finally Frequently asked questions about SAM-e and fibromyalgia.
All of this wealth of information is related in a most accessible manner and is a volume that should be part of every sufferer of the syndrome as well as those around the victim. IN Dr. Egdebike’s words, ‘I sincerely think that SAM‑e, combined with perhaps very low doses of regular medications, lots of exercises, relaxation techniques, proper nutrition, better stress management, and other self-help strategies is the way to go for fibromyalgia.’ Highly Recommended. As someone that has several friends and family members that suffer from this, reading Fibromyalgia Relief: Successful Self-care Strategies and Effective Natural Remedies was very informative. I learned a little more about it.
This book was written by Dr. Joseph K Egbebike, he writes not just from the knowledge he's gathered but also from experience, although with many years of knowledge he can relate on a personal level as he too is a sufferer of terrible pain and has learnt to live a happy life despite his condition.
Dr Joseph covers a great deal of aspects about fibromyalgia from a overview of syndrome, exercises to try and to frequently asked questions. It's worth reading whether you suffer from it or know someone that does.
The Dr speaks about how the majority of the medication prescribed to treat the symptoms is causing other major effects or is addictive.
Although there's a lot of information it isn't too much to take in and there's easy tips that sufferers can slip into their routines to help make life better.

After a friend was told she may have fibromyalgia I bought this book so I could understand and be the support she needed. One of the hardest issues people with fibromyalgia face is depression. Depression in itself is hard to explain when there is no reasonable excuse to be depressed, and then add the pain and soreness.
Dr. Joseph K. Egbebike is very thorough in his description of fibromyalgia, ailments, symptoms, and the treatments that are being used at this time. He is meticulous in the use of SAMe (SAMMY) as a way to alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia and treat it. He discusses other illnesses that are similar and the difficult job of distinguishing fibromyalgia. Plus, the fact that the majority of the medication given to treat the symptoms is causing other major side effects or is addictive. My favorite part of the book was about how to exercise to help with the pain.

After reading the title, I start my research about fibromyalgia and the symptoms so I could learn more about it, and then after reading this book I have to say this is a very helpful book.
When it comes to medical and syndromes terms I really don’t have so much knowledge about it, this is a really helpful read for those who are suffering or have a close relative who suffers it and a lot more. This book provides sections of a lot of things including a list of medicines in case you can’t find one there is another you can look up to, that is a persistent problem in my country due to all the conflict we are living today with the government, and we scarcely find the things to just survive. I give my biggest recommendation.
