A tangram is a dissection puzzle that involves seven flat polygons, or tans, that are arranged to form shapes. The goal is to replicate a pattern without overlapping any of the pieces.
The puzzle is made up of:
Two large triangles
One medium triangle
Two small triangles
One square
One parallelogram
The seven pieces can be arranged in different ways to form many shapes, such as: Animals, People, Birds.
When all seven pieces are combined, they form a square called a tangram square.
Tangrams uses...Tangram is a traditional Chinese puzzle that is made up of a square cut into seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square, and five triangles) and they can make a different design according to their arrangements. When all 7 pieces are combined together, they form a square which is called a tangram square.
Tangram is a traditional Chinese puzzle that incorporates mathematical thought with bright colors and figures. Some studies suggest that tangram puzzles can be used as therapy for older people to help prevent early Alzheimer's.
Tangrams also helps students at the middle grades develop spatial-visualization skills and introduce or reinforce geometric concepts such as congruence, similarity, symmetry, etc. Students use them to compute the area of polygons, or Tangrams can be used to introduce the terms “congruent” and “similar.”
