Paul Smith is a highly experienced professional in teaching, assessing, and quality assurance, specialising in health, safety, and security-related qualifications. With extensive expertise in internal and external quality assurance, Paul serves as the Head of Centre for qualification awarding bodies, overseeing the delivery of accredited and bespoke qualifications across multiple sectors.
Paul is a consultant in Training, Assessment, and Quality Assurance (TAQA) services and works with leading qualification awarding bodies regulated by the Office of Qualifications (Ofqual) and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). In addition to consultancy, he holds multiple roles, including lead instructor, exams officer, assessor, and lead internal quality assurer.
With a range of teaching, assessment, and quality assurance qualifications—including a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, Level 4 Lead External Quality Assurance certifications, and advanced leadership and management qualifications Paul is highly proficient in developing and delivering specialist training. He has expertise in conflict management, the prevention and management of violence and aggression (PMVA), control and restraint, and advanced physical intervention techniques.
Paul is a licensed and registered trainer for national initiatives such as counter-terrorism and suicide awareness; Paul is also a licensed safeTALK instructor with LivingWorks and a mental health instructor for NHS Scotland. He has published works, including co-authoring "Health and Safety Course Companion," a widely used resource for candidates pursuing higher-level occupational health and safety qualifications.
Paul holds numerous fellowships and memberships in prestigious organisations, such as the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Society for Education and Training (SET), and the National Federation for Personal Safety (NFPS). Paul is an accredited clinical hypnotherapist and an Advanced Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). With a strong foundation in therapeutic and coaching methodologies,he is also a qualified mediator, coach, mentor, and dignity and respect advisor.
